Everyone is going – apparently

Last week a new show for the UK window, door and conservatory industry was launched to an enthusiastic audience at the Telford International Centre. The press in attendance and the launch partners of the FIT( Fabricator Installer Trade) show were told that this was ‘the right event, at the right time’ , ‘a show designed for our times’ and that ‘everyone is going’. A national industry exhibition is to be welcomed, and I am sure there will be no shortage of willing exhibitors, as there is a huge desire among the manufacturers and suppliers of window systems and their associated products, to display and exhibit, but the question most commentators will be asking is “are the potential purchasers of their products as equally enthused?”

We have seen the gradual demise of Glassex, and its sister event Interbuild – in their heyday filling three and seven halls at the NEC respectively - and unsuccessful attempts at smaller more focussed offerings, all victims of diminishing footfall.
In these even more trying times economically, is this likely to change?

Time will tell.

Last week I published a letter from Vic De Costa of Swisspacer and a subsequent response from Mark Hickox of Thermoseal. Further responses have followed that I am, unfortunately unable to publish for legal reasons. My apologies to the contributors.
