Industry ebb and flow
This week we have a couple of stories that highlight the economic ebb and flow of the glass and glazing industry. The first comes from glass giant NSG Pilkington who have informed us that they are mothballing one of their three float lines in the UK (Read Story Here), with the loss of 150 jobs. While the other comes from Palmer Market Research who has announced in his latest report that the UK domestic glazing market dipped by 4% last year, but was valued at a whopping £3.7billion (read story here).
No news is good news, or so they say, which may please the workers at Avocet Hardware, who I am reliably informed are continuing to operate as normal while a new buyer is sought. It was hoped that an announcement would be forthcoming today, so expect news any day soon.
And last, but not least, The Glazine bids farewell to Nathan Bushell, who has edited The Glazine with aplomb and not inconsiderable insight for the past three years. He moves on to pastures new at Glass Times, and I wish him every success.
The editorship of The Glazine returns to me once more, so please send all your news stories to news@the-glazine.com or should you wish to contact me directly tony@the-glazine.com
