By Royal Appointment……..

Owing to the Queens Diamond Jubilee celebrations and special Bank Holiday, the Glazine has published a day later than usual. I do hope there were not too many of you scouring your inboxes yesterday searching for your weekly update of glass and glazing news.

Veka

This week we bid farewell to Graham Hinett, who has decided to retire from his position as Chief Executive of Fensa, after 10 years in the hot seat. His parting is not however final in that he will retain his position as chairman of The Glazing Ombudsman. We wish him well.

Elsewhere, we have items referring to email marketing – a subject very close to The Glazine’s heart for the past 10 years – and some cautionary advice regarding data piracy.

We also have some company news regarding the Hegla and Bystronic tie up, and Veka’s position one year on since the acquisition of Bowater.

I hope you enjoy this week’s issue.

Please send all your news stories to news@the-glazine.com or should you wish to contact me directly

Q1 shapes up well

Profile bending specialist, Universal Arches, has just reported their best ever quarter 1 results, 3.25% up on last year for January through to March 2012.

This performance, the company feels, shows that continued investment, customer care and an attention to quality clearly pays dividends. The company continues to bring a number of firsts to the bending sector.

The company now offers direct deliveries for the more populous areas of the UK along with free profile collections. Other areas are now served by a specialist haulage firm and combined with the direct deliveries, there’s now no more multiple handling and use of delivery hubs, which increase the risk of damage or missing goods.

Law gets tough on data piracy

Still using good old Yellow Pages or online directories for your prospect list? If you’re using database lists as a source of sales leads you could end up in court.

Most people recognise that video piracy or illegally downloading music is wrong, but many business owners don’t realise their staff could also be breaching copyright law by using business data illegally.

Business data, such as prospect databases, is protected under the UK Copyright, Design and Patents Act 1988 and the European Union 1996 Directive No. 96/9/EC and using data without the owners express permission is copyright infringement which can carry severe penalties.

Email marketing gets to the parts other marketing can’t reach

“Email marketing gets the best results,” says Andy Ball, director of Balls2 Marketing. “Adding email marketing into any campaign will bring in more good quality leads.”

Everyone in business needs more leads. Whether it’s finding new customers, or selling more to existing customers, new leads and enquiries are the lifeblood of business. But finding new leads can be hard. Traditional methods of direct marketing have become very costly increases in printing and postage fees. It’s made it even more expensive to send stuff out to prospects. But there is another way.
