Following the Glass and Glazing Federation’s (GGF) Strategy Review conclusions, the Federation has formed a new Training Committee to replace the GGF Training Forum - which had comprised mainly of external training providers.
Membership of the Training Committee is now GGF Members only and is solely via nomination. Each Committee Member must be nominated by each Group within the three GGF Executives – Glazing, Home Improvement and Specialist Interest. The nominated representatives from each Group will then meet quarterly to discuss particular training needs for their sector and also to share best practice.
Chairman of the Committee, Kevin Hulin of Mann McGowan Fabrications Ltd, stressed the importance of ensuring a fair representation of all GGF Groups representing specialist sectors within the GGF membership. “Essentially the Committee is closed to external agencies such as sector skill councils and awarding bodies. This will allow GGF Members to debate and reach decisions on training issues without any undue influence.”
Over the past decade, the Federation has built up good working relationships with external agencies such as The Glass Qualifications Authority and training providers. The Training Committee intends to build on this by actively working with these agencies and utilising its expertise by extending invitations to Training Committee meetings as and when necessary.
The Committee’s main objectives are:
To identify training needs
To identify the most appropriate mode of delivery
To source appropriate provider (s)
To research potential funding options
Kevin Hulin added “It is fantastic to finally see training placed highly on the Federation’s agenda and in effect take the industry lead on Training. Current developments with the Green Deal and associated Minimum Technical Competency, clearly show the Federation is right to prioritise training. The new Training Committee will seek to offer guidance and support to all sectors within membership.”
