Synseal’s launch of the Global Summer Orangery System promises to extend the success of the brand even further, setting new standards along the way. That is the belief of the Synseal development team behind the project as the product comes to market after a 6-month development period, during which every competitive product has been compared for aesthetics, structural integrity and ease of installation.
“The development of the Global Orangery System has involved some of the most exhaustive research and development that Synseal has ever undertaken,” explained Kevin Wain, Research and Development Manager for the project. “We have looked closely at the origins of the orangery, at existing products on the market, homeowners’ needs and desires, and performance, fabrication and installation criteria. We believe that from all of this we have a great product that will lead the market,” he added.
The Synseal Global Orangery uses proven components from the market-leading, BBA Approved Global roof system and sits them on an orangery structural and styling system that includes some advanced concepts. The design team acknowledged that homeowners specifying orangeries are choosing something that reflects a more upmarket lifestyle. A fully glazed conservatory might not be to everyone’s taste and therefore the combination of traditionally built features and glazing of an orangery creates a more substantial and interesting effect. It also recognised that orangeries may be considered as a multi-purpose living space, such as a kitchen extension, living room, dining room or playroom.
The Global Orangery uses the market leading Global roof with a well-engineered internal pelmet framework, which is then plastered, giving the roof a perimeter ceiling all the way round. Within this perimeter roof the homeowner can choose to add downlighters or audio speakers.
Global Summer has two main fitting options – raised line and low line, which alters the height of the decorative gutter fascia that sits above the conservatory windows. The raised line installation uses the orangery eaves beam extender beneath the standard eaves beam to life the roof 170mm over the frames and provides increased space between the pelmet pod internal soffit and the roof. This increased height adds grandeur to Global Summer installations, provides a more authentic Orangery look and helps distinguish it from standard conservatories.
Low line installations use the Synseal bi-fold door support beneath the heavy-duty eaves beam to keep the pelmet pod internal soffit in line with the conservatory’s gutter. Low line is ideal when the overall conservatory height needs to be contained, or to fit in with a more compact property’s proportions.
The gutter line of the roof of the orangery is hidden from view by a decorative cornice that rises above the flat section and this cornice conceals the orangery gutter for a more attractive external appearance.
Aesthetics are amply catered for with a choice of accurate woodgrain finishes together with a choice of interlocking finials and crestings. A wide range of glass options, a crucial aspect of any conservatory selection, is also offered through Global Glass.
The installer is also considered in the preparation of the Global Summer Orangery, with the internal pelmet and mullion pods clipping in place and designed to allow simple wet finishing, with electrical wiring easily concealed. “An orangery is not just another glazed conservatory,” says Mark Schlotel, Head of Marketing. “It should look conventionally built and our fascias, which fully hide the guttering, and corner and mullion pilasters ensure every Global Summer Orangery will look superb when installed against any host building.”
David Leng, Synseal’s Chief Executive has great ambitions for the Global Summer Orangery: “Orangeries are important for the conservatory market. The Global brand is the number one seller and our customers expect something significant from us whenever we launch a new product. The orangery style has found favour with homeowners and so we have developed a product that will ensure our lead in this sector too.”
