Tuffex gains an edge with second cuttin line
7th February 2012

Investment in a 6x3m cutting table at the modern TuffX facility has placed the company in a unique market position. As a specialist roof glass supplier the company has made substantial investment in the larger cutting table to provide the industry with a much needed glass roofing option.

Having evaluated the market the TuffX team grasped the need to provide a solution that would eliminate problems associated with leaks from muntin bars. The second larger cutting table was purchased to handle the larger glass sheets that would be needed for producing the Ambi-Max superlength units.

The need for this product has subsequently grown substantially, with TuffX being the only specialist UK glass roof manufacturer to provide units of this size to the conservatory industry.

TuffX senior management team considers that investment in machinery and production equipment has a strong association with growth. This philosophy has yielded extremely positive results for the company after the installation at its Merseyside facility. The higher level of investment has driven forward a faster growth in sales throughout 2011 than previously expected.

Since TuffX completed the last phase of its expansion programme in 2011 with the installation of the additional cutting line at the Knowsley site, the company has seen a 30% increase in sales dominated by products from the Ambience range.

The Ambi-Max units have been well received and continue to be incorporated into an increasing number of projects within both the domestic and commercial sectors.

Additionally the substantial investment has enabled TuffX to increase output in relation to the entire Ambience brand. Production methods have been streamlined doubling capacity and ensuring faster turnarounds for customers.

Currently, senior management are focussing on the further development of both architectural and domestic sectors as the entire Ambience brand continues to set standards for the industry.

Graham Price, Managing Director comments, “The investment allowed us to adapt production methods and to produce both dual coated and soft coated glasses in a variety of complex shapes and sizes. The introduction of the larger units into the Ambience range enables us to satisfy the growing demands of homeowners who place aesthetics alongside performance when making investments in their properties.”

Graham Price, Managing Director at TuffX considered technical investment at the company of vital importance, with the installation of a second cutting line improving manufacturing methods and yielding profit which continues to send out a clear message of strength and success to the industry.

Graham Price comments, “We saw an opportunity to provide a niche product that was needed in the industry. Our investments have certainly paid off with the new machinery helping us to achieve excellent results and gain recognition for our proactive approach.”
