Host for G 14 Awards Presentation evening announced

A little later than usual, it was announced today that the host for the G 14 Awards Presentation and Gala Dinner being held at the Park Lane Hilton on November 21st is to be Scottish comedian Kevin Bridges. Described by fellow countryman Billy Connolly as ‘brilliant’, Bridges will take to the stage at the end of November, and after a short stand up set will announce and present the deserving victors with their G 14 winners trophies.

An audience favourite on the long running Live at the Apollo TV series, he recently completed a sell out tour of Australia.

Departing momentarily from the general theme of this weeks issue, we also have news of a further drop in inflation here, a mid term report from Leads2Trade here, and encouraging news about Mila’s parent company here.

As you can imagine the rest of the centre column is given up to more response from the G 14 Award finalists.

I hope you enjoy this week’s issue.

Kevin Bridges To Host The G 14 Awards

Scottish comedian, Kevin Bridges, whom Billy Connolly has dubbed as ‘brilliant’ will host the G14 Awards Presentation at the London Hilton on Park Lane, London, on Friday 21 November.

Kevin first made his debut at the Edinburgh Playhouse on BBC1’s Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow in 2009 and was an immediate sensation, selling out his run at the Festival in just one day. His astonishing rise continued in 2010 when he recorded his debut DVD as a sold-out Glasgow SECC Arena in front of an audience of ten thousand. The DVD was released in November 2010 and out-sold Frankie Boyle and Billy Connolly.

In 2011 he became the host of Channel 4’s Stand Up For The Week and headlined an episode of Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow from the Glasgow King’s Theatre. In 2012 he also hosted the long-running series of Live At The Apollo and presented his own six-part documentary, Kevin Bridges – What’s The Story for BBC1.

UK inflation rate of 1.2% is lowest in five years

UK inflation fell to a five-year low of 1.2% in September from 1.5% the month before, official figures show.

The rate - as measured by the Consumer Prices Index - is the lowest since September 2009, when it was 1.1%.

Lower energy and food prices helped to cut the rate, while the Office for National Statistics (ONS) also cited cheaper transport costs as a factor.

The Retail Prices Index measure of inflation fell to 2.3% from 2.4% in August.

The CPI is the rate the Bank of England targets and it is charged with keeping inflation at about 2%.

The UK economy is the fastest growing in the developed world, something that would normally prompt a rise in interest rates.

While some economists had speculated that the Bank of England might raise interest rates from the current record low of 0.5% before the end of the year, most had expected a rise early next year.

The world’s biggest arched window (probably) job shortlisted

Forward thinking trade fabricator Dempsey Dyer, frame bending specialists Universal Arches and arguably one of the largest arched window jobs ever has been shortlisted for Commercial Project of the Year at the G-14 Awards.

The £8.75 million project, which involved the replacement of some 655 arched head PVC-u windows at an old Victorian mill in Leicester, is believed to be one of the largest ever of its kind. The windows were manufactured by Dempsey Dyer and Universal Arches and installed over a carefully co-ordinated 12 month time period. Because of the complexity of the project, both Dempsey and Universal worked closely with architect G+P and the local Planning Department of Leicester City Council to ensure the installation was a complete success.
This is the second award Dempsey Dyer has been shortlisted for in recent times – the company was presented with an accolade from the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) for their commitment to lean manufacturing – but it is the first time they have been a G-Award finalist.
