Celebrating 160 years of innovation
14th October 2014

A pioneering hardware specialist is celebrating 160 years of delivering product solutions and forging long-lasting relationships across the industry.

Winkhaus was established in 1854 in Halver Germany and initially manufactured padlocks before expanding into structural fittings, hinges and eventually locking systems for windows and doors.

The first employees hand-crafted each product and although production methods have changed in 160 years, the care and consideration for uncompromising quality has remained a constant throughout the years.

Winkhaus Commercial Director, Justin Harris, comments: “Winkhaus was built with great emphasis on precision, and today the name is synonymous with quality and innovation. We’re proud to have the reputation of a trusted partner in the industry and wanted to use this milestone as a launch pad for future plans.”

For Winkhaus innovation means new products being launched regularly and most recently Winkhaus has rolled out additions to the AV2 range of Auto locks, which are the ideal solution for applications such as top-end entrance doors and composite doors.

AV2 Heritage, AV2, blueMatic AV2E, AV2-B are all developed to accommodate changing consumer tastes and work in conjunction with contemporary style door hardware.

Looking forward, Winkhaus is ambitious and gearing up for new markets. One of these is keyless locking, a market that the AV2 range accommodates. AV2-B is battery operated and key fob activated, no different from the way a modern car operates.

Justin concludes: “Aside from being a trusted partner for fabricators and helping them stand out in their respective markets, we’re also constantly investing in innovation, enabling them to target new ones by delivering new, high quality products.”

Winkhaus is still a family owned company, currently employing over 2,000 staff in five German locations and international subsidiaries in eight countries.
