One of Britain’s most iconic glass roofs, on the atrium of Parliament’s Portcullis House, fell foul of a stormy downpour earlier today (July 11) when a glass panel gave way, soaking staff and visitors below.

Among those witnessing the deluge was Natasha Porter OBE, founder and CEO of the Unlocked Graduates prison education programme, who Tweeted the image as it was happening.

Other witnesses heard a loud bang followed by the deluge, which sent visitors scattering before maintenance staff cordoned off the area and began mopping up.

Portcullis House was opened in 2001 to provide additional offices for MPs and staff and is a regular meeting place for journalists.
