The team at Liniar donated nearly 600 food items last month to be distributed by Salcare, a charity supporting people in need in the Heanor area this Christmas.

The company’s annual Food Drive has been running for a number of years but this year’s collection has seen the most generous results to date.

The team members have also been choosing, wrapping and donating Christmas gifts for adults and children currently being supported by Derbyshire WISH, a local charity that offers advice, support and refuge for people suffering the impact of domestic abuse.

Group managing director Martin Thurley said: “Charities are under more pressure than ever as household budgets are squeezed and donations fall. The cost-of-living crisis is being felt throughout our community, both physically and mentally. The sad fact is that families are having to choose between heating their homes and buying food and unfortunately, this kind of pressure can also result in a rise in domestic violence.”

He added: “I’m always proud of the way the Liniar team pull together to assist the local community. The food they’ve collected will help people stretch their money just that little bit further and the gifts, which could be the only present some receive this Christmas, will offer a small respite to those facing an uncertain future through no fault of their own.”

Liniar, via its parent company Quanex and the Quanex Foundation, has also donated £1,000 to Salcare.
