Pilkington United Kingdom Limited, part of the NSG Group, had a standout year in 2024, achieving numerous industry award wins. These accolades highlight the firm’s leadership, innovation and commitment to sustainability within the glass manufacturing space, as well as its people-focused approach.

In the G24 Awards, hosted in November, Pilkington UK claimed the title of New Product of the Year for Pilkington Mirai™, a glass product verified as the lowest carbon glass of its kind. With 52% less embodied carbon, the product is manufactured using a combination of alternative fuels, high recycled glass content, and green electricity sources.

The Pilkington MiraiRangeoffers more sustainable alternatives to regular float glass without comprising on performance, quality, or aesthetic appearance, helping architects design projects while reducing the carbon intensity of their projects.

The Pilkington Mirai Range is an essential part of Pilkington UK’s commitment to decarbonisation. The product requires less carbon to produce, and when paired with high-performance coatings, helps reduce energy use in buildings. This directly supports NSG Group’s makechange™ initiative to cut operational carbon addressing critical sustainability goals in the construction industry.

Pilkington UK also earned three key accolades at the Glass Focus Awards last November. Firstly, the Sustainable Practice Award for its European-first carbon capture trial in collaboration with C-Capture and Glass Futures. This trial is advancing efforts to decarbonise the glass industry, reflecting Pilkington UK’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact.

The firm also won the Strengthening Business Through People Award for its efforts to advance Women in the Workplace, a core initiative of the NSG Group’s broader diversity and inclusion strategy, and the Innovative Solution Award for its collaboration with Zytronic on solutions powered by NSGTEC – a conductive, transparent glass technology that supports the next generation of interactive displays and infrared heating.

These award wins reflect Pilkington UK’s ongoing efforts to drive innovation and sustainability within glass manufacturing. With products like Pilkington Mirai™ and its exploration in advancing carbon capture technology, alongside its promotion of diversity and inclusion to create a more forward-thinking workplace, the team has its sights set on progressing the industry further.

Commenting on the company’s achievements, Neil Syder, Managing Director at Pilkington UK, said:”These awards are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our teams and partners. Our focus on innovation, sustainability, and people is driving real progress across the glass industry through our makechange™ initiative.

“We are particularly proud of our trials in carbon reduction and our efforts to create a more inclusive workplace, as these are essential components of our long-term strategy. These wins reflect the continued trust and support of the industry, which we deeply value.”
