Sixteen keen golfers from across the window industry gathered in the Cheshire countryside to compete in Rapierstar’s annual charity golf day to raise money for GM Fundraising.

The “pre GMF Cup” event at the renowned Astbury Golf Club was organised by Rapierstar MD David Furness and colleagues as part of the company’s support for the charity, which raises money for Hope House Children’s Hospices.

“Four teams of four took part involving some of the industry’s most familiar faces in a competitive battle which saw some moments of brilliance, and others that may be best forgotten,” said organisers. “The hard-fought competition took players along Astbury’s sweeping tree lined fairways and the historic Macclesfield canal, with the rainy conditions making the course more challenging than usual.”

The ultimate honours went to winning “Team Nigel” formed of Dave Jones, former Veka MD, Nigel Hutchinson MD at Ingenious Locks and Hardware, Mark Westbrook MD at Frame Express and Dean Hodges, BM Aluminium’s MD.

David Stockwell, Head of Installations at Business Micros, won the prize for the longest drive and taking the prize for ‘nearest the hole’ was Chris Powell, MD of CWG.

The Astbury golf day provides a useful practice session for GM Fundraising’s Ryder Cup style challenge, the GMF Cup, held at Quinta do Lago, Portugal.

GM Fundraising’s GMF Cup and its other events support Hope House Children’s Hospices. This organisation works to ensure that no one should face the death of a child alone, but it can only provide its services through donations – in fact, more than 95% of Hope House’s annual costs are met through charitable donations and GM Fundraising is its largest single donor.
