The 12-strong Kelly’s Heroes team have smashed through their £55,000 fundraising target and are now heading for £70,000 at only day 10 of their planned 13-day epic run from John O’Groats to Lands End.

The doughty dozen and support crew have faced unseasonally miserable weather since setting off on the journey, to raise funds for We Mind & Kelly Matters, the mental health charity set up by Glazerite’s John Hewitt in memory of his late daughter. Now, as they approach the final days, the have set themselves a new target of £75,000 or more as donations keep rolling in.

John reports that, as well as the official donations, he has been blown away by the generosity of many of the strangers they have met on the way who have chipped in when they heard what it was all about.

The team aim to complete the 1,000-mile in the 13 days, including a gruelling total of 53,000 feet of climbing. Each day, the are posting a video diary of their achievement and their thoughts https://www.wemindandkellymatters.co.uk/daily-video-updates and expect to be able to announce a final figure soon.

Donations are still invited at https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fund/kellys-heroes
