The owner of a traditional 1920s semi in York has been able to keep the home’s original leaded and stained glass windows while reducing heat loss and external noise with the help of Granada Secondary Glazing.

The vintage windows were kept in place, with the addition of vertical sliding and hinged units with 6mm toughened glass on most and 6.8mm acoustic glass in the front bedroom for enhanced sound insulation.

“I thought the windows were very special, they were original to the house from 1920’s and I thought it was bad idea to change them, said Suzanne McArdle, “I wanted to keep the original features of the house. The exterior of the house looked charming because of the original windows.”

She continued: “I am very happy with how the windows look now, it’s very discreet and hardly noticeable – you can barely tell if the secondary glazing has been installed at all. We get a great night sleep, we no longer hear any lorries or cars driving past, it has made a huge difference. The traffic is still there but no noise, we can hardly hear anything now, it’s amazing.”

The windows had previously had secondary glazing, she added, but it did not cover the full window so heat was still escaping.

“Now, with the help of Granada Secondary Glazing’s products we are in a place where much less heating is required.”
