The industry performed well in 2022 and continued to reverse the decline that had been seen pre-pandemic, according to GGF figures, as well as showing positive signs that it is adjusting well to upheaval following the introduction of the new Building Regs.

The number of windows installed increased by 8% over 2019 though the number of installations remained roughly the same, indicating that installations in general are getting bigger.

The number of door licences issued was 16% higher in the latter half of 2022 following the introduction of the Doc L changes in June, though the number of A Rated doors dipped slightly against increases in B and C ratings.

The figures are a snapshot of the industry taken from the federation’s latest Market Knowledge report based to data derived from over half a million installations registered with Fensa every year, internal data from BFRC and RISA, as well as information included in a Mintel report from 2022 entitled ‘UK Residential Windows & Doors’ https://www.the-glazine.com/?p=8891 .

Head of membership and customer relations Ben Wallace reflected on what had been a tumultuous year: “We understand how useful it is to be abreast of the latest trends and market information, but also how difficult and time-consuming it can be to pull all the necessary data together from reliable sources. This report gives the industry valuable insight they can trust.”

Group MD John Agnew concluded: “Whilst the pandemic has inevitably caused a huge amount of upheaval for the industry, what has remained constant are recurring themes that need to be tackled across the sector. Namely, the skills shortage, the sustainability of the industry and ensuring the sector is seen as a major factor in the government being able to hit its Net Zero targets. We comment on the developments on all of these factors within the report.

“We trust it helps provide the necessary information to understand your own business’ performance over the past two years whilst giving insight as to what the next 12 months has in store.”

The report is free to GGF members and £250+VAT to non-members.
