Descent of Everest

Rumours had been rumbling around the industry for a while – and it was virtually written off by one national newspaper just a few weeks ago – but Everest has indeed survived the crisis that saw it post a £9million loss last year, albeit with a very hefty bail out from its backers.

To the consumer, Everest has been a constant in the industry for over half a century, though with nothing like the high profile it enjoyed in the days of its Tan Hill telly ads, and now with its new lease of life it looks as though it will be with us for some time to come, doing its best to answer those in the industry who say the days of the national giants are numbered. Tony Higgin, founder and organiser, said the scale of a 600-seater event – the biggest of its kind in the industry – along with the complex process of professional independent judging meant that it would be the right choice to put it back in order to return at full scale next year.
