Covid hits Glasstec and VinylPlus
2nd June 2020
Two more industry events have succumbed to the virus this week with the news that Glasstec has been postponed until next spring and the VinylPlus Sustainability Forum 2020 is to become a virtual event.
The biennial glass industry fair, originally planned for the coming October 20-23, will now be held on June15-18 next year, organiser Messe Düsseldorf announced this week.
Egbert Wenninger, Chairman of the glasstec advisory board and Chairman of VDMA’s Glass Technology Forum said the effects of the pandemic had forced many companies to put investments, including trade fair participation, to the test. He added: “A smaller glasstec 2020 would in our view not do justice to the trade fair. glasstec has been and will be the most important global event for the glass industry, mechanical engineering and skilled crafts; and since it should continue to be that way we decided to postpone.”
The planned eighth annual VinylPlus Sustainability Forum will now be a one-day virtual event, to be held on October 15 this year.
Brigitte Dero, Managing Director ofVinylPlus, said: “While we are saddened not to be able to meet VinylPlus partners and their stakeholders in person, we are excited about presenting our stimulating programme in a virtual format and look forward to e-uniting the industry in another successful VinylPlus Sustainability Forum.
“2020 represents a significant milestone in what we have achieved to date and the PVC industry remains on track to successfully meet VinylPlus’ ambitious targets by the end of the year. Yet our hard work continues amid a dynamic European policy landscape that makes our efforts even more relevant.”
