Smart Ready inventor Giovanni Laporta is mounting a direct attack on ‘disinformation and half-truths’ from some smart tech providers with the planned FIT Show launch of his Factchecked service.

He is aiming to call out false and misleading claims from ‘super-spreaders’ that he says may conceal security flaws and harm both the consumers and the reputation of the industry.

“Currently, there are several trending disinformation examples in the smart door and window markets or what I call ‘half-truths’, which conveniently leave out major security flaws with their smart tech,” he said, “This is due to the emerging Smart technologies, which force a majority of industry companies out of their comfort zone, away from what they know best, which is making good hardware or good windows and doors.”

As well as alleging falsehoods about products themselves, he points to claims such as ‘Insurance Backed’, which may actually mean a sales lead generating service that points to a particular insurance quote provider.

He continued: “Unless disinformation or a half truth is called out, it will be the consumer and the fenestration industry as a whole that will suffer. Consumers get wise after they are asked to part with cash, and if the installation company hasn’t delivered the complete solution they were expecting, there’s going to be trouble for those spreading disinformation, innocently or otherwise.

“Having finally shaken off the tarnish of White Gold, do we as an industry really want to go back? We need to stop the irresponsible marketing. Disinformation Super Spreaders need to be stopped. Ask questions. Are the sales facts you are reading correct? Don’t get caught up in misinformation.”

Stand H11 at the Fit show.
