DoorCo this week officially launched its move into UK manufacturing with the unveiling of Britdor, a timber core composite door.

The factory, at Thorne near Doncaster represents the company’s first foray into slab manufacture and will also be the R&D base for the company to trial potential new product lines.

It has, up to now, brought in slabs from its Korean partners for prepping and distribution via its Macclesfield base. MD Dan Sullivan explained that this will continue but the new Britdor will be made from scratch at Thorne with other new lines potentially following on.

He added that the site might even develop new products that could then go on to be made at the Korean operation’s large scale production facilities.

He told The Glazine: “We have far greater flexibility to create and develop new concepts here and may of course go on to produce them here. But the volumes and efficiencies possible in Korea mean that is another option.”

Britdor is based on a timber core finished with thermoplastic CoolSkin technology, made to fit any profile on the market. The collection will include existing styles like 6/4 combi, flush and farmhouse, as well as two new exclusive designs, all available in over 15 colours.

Marketing manager, Ellie Pool explained the thinking behind the brand: “When it came to bringing an identity to life for our new door, there was a clear theme in mind from the start: British.

“This is the first product to be manufactured out of our new Doncaster factory, as opposed to our current overseas facilities and therefore we wanted this brand to have classic British heritage at its core. We’re proud of our connections with brilliant oversea manufacturers, such as our team at DoorCo Korea but as a nod to our latest investment in Doncaster, we wanted the British theme to take centre stage.

Britdor solid timber core is available via the DoorCo ordering portal now.
