Trade fabricator A Plus Aluminium reports that sales of its sliding doors rose by 30% in 2023, compared with the previous year – and have more than doubled over the past four years.

Joint MD Jon Palethorpe said: “We are seeing sliding door sales eat into bi-fold market share. “This would have been extraordinary just a short time ago but now, many homeowners are opting for aluminium sliding doors over bi-folds.  This is because they are switching on to the associated benefits – namely maximising the glazed area and minimising the frame.

“Homeowners want to get as much natural light into their homes as possible while creating a seamless transition between inside and out. Bi-folds have more frame material and less glass.”

While the PlusGlide 47 is the company’s most popular sliding door, volumes have increased right across the range and include the PlusGlide 46 Lift & Slide and PlusGlide Vision, an ultra slim sliding door with 20mm sightline. There’s also appreciation for the traditional Crown sliding patio door.
