The future’s so bright I’ve got to wear shades....

In this, the first issue since our summer break, we have news of continued optimism in the construction industry as 70% of companies polled in a recent survey say they are happier about their future prospects than they were twelve months ago. Although there are growing concerns about the cost of labour with 61% of firms expecting wages to rise throughout 2014. You can read the full story here.

The installer network issue continues to make waves as the announcement that the CIN (Certified Installer Network), expect to exceed the 100 member mark before the year is out, having already registered 74 so far. Deceuninck’s Rob McGlennon also responds Alan Burgess’ letter to The Glazine of the 12th August on the same subject.

The G 14 Awards are gathering momentum with two further sponsors announcing their support. Thermoseal are long standing sponsors of the Champagne Reception and have stepped up to the plate again, while Synseal have returned to the fold, as it where, by taking up the main event sponsors mantle.

The deadline for entries to the G 14 Awards has been extended by a further week to allow those returning from holiday, and those who are just plain busy, a little more time to submit their entries.

I hope you enjoy this week’s issue.

Dear Tony

Rob McGlennon response to Alan Burgess, Masterframe letter in Glazine 12 August 2014

I enjoyed Alan Burgess’ response to my letter in the Glazine (12th August 2014).

As a fabricator, Alan is closer to the consumer and Masterframe has put a lot of time and effort in building its installer network. Masterframe is a quality act and we wish them every success. But Alan missed my point – I wasn’t criticising fabricator schemes that guarantee the workmanship and quality of installers’ work.

Dear Tony

I’ve become aware in recent weeks of some misinformation in the market which has the potential to undermine the credibility of the Secured by Design scheme, and I think it needs to be addressed.

In the hardware sector, we all recognise just how valuable it is for fabricators and installers to achieve SBD status on their products, and here at Mila we do all we can to help them.

Dear Tony

As a Director of Leads2trade - or 'an internet lead generation company' as David Clarke said - I felt I should send in a short response to his letter.

Whilst the GDHIF primarily saw take up in the heating and insulation sector it's an issue that transcends this sector and therefore deserves the scrutiny it has been getting.

Search starts for this year’s ‘Idiots on Ladders’

The Ladder Association is asking the public to send in the worst pictures of ladder use they can find, to show just how dangerous it can be to misuse a ladder.

The annual contest is part of a two-pronged push to help ensure ladder users are safe.

The Ladder Exchange – which lets people trade their old ladders for safe new ones at a discount – takes unsafe equipment out of circulation while Idiots on Ladders looks at the role of people using the equipment.
