Fensa has unveiled the Fensa Scotland certification scheme, tailored specifically to the country’s own building standards, with the first certificates expected to be issued to homeowners next month.

The launch comes after Scots installers emerged from the latest stages of lockdown and almost 20 years since Fensa came into being for the certification of windows and doors in response to new legislation on installations in England and Wales.

It will be open to companies carrying out installations in homes north of the border, irrespective of where the companies are based and their products sourced.

Announcing the launch, director of membership Chris Beedel also revealed a number of companies that have already signed up to the scheme, including Everest 2020 as well as Scots-based Clydebuilt Home Improvements, and RRS Improvements.

He continued: “For all our Fensa Approved Installers we aim to provide a real boost to the installation industry in Scotland at this crucial time. We look forward to issuing our first certificates in Scotland and give businesses and homeowners there the same assurance and confidence that a Fensa certification has done in England and Wales for almost 20 years.”

Homeowners choosing a Fensa Approved Installer receive a Fensa certificate when the work is complete. This certifies the work complies with building regulations and verifies that every Fensa Approved Installer’s guarantee is backed by insurance. Each Fensa Approved Installer, from large national brands to small local companies, is assessed regularly by Fensa to ensure its compliance to building regulations is continually maintained.
