They came, they climbed, and they conquered! SafeGuard’s Dan Mason and Rob Page have scaled one of the world’s most iconic summits, Mount Kilimanjaro, for Kelly’s Heroes, raising £5,550 in vital funds.
Armed with determination, an unbreakable spirit, and a lot of protein bars, these two explorers faced the challenge of a lifetime climbing over 5,895m to reach the summit. With months of preparation and fundraising fuelling their efforts, Dan and Rob planted their flag on Africa’s highest peak after a final 8.5 hour gruelling trek.
“Suicide remains a shocking statistic, with around 7,000 people in the UK taking their own life each year, and it’s a stark reminder that mental health is just as important as physical health. Training for Kilimanjaro has been no walk in the park – unless that park happens to be on a steep incline and 15 miles long,” said Dan Mason. “But having raised £5,550 and counting, as team SafeGuard it makes it all worthwhile”.
With the help of family, friends, and work colleagues, the duo managed to surpass their initial fundraising goal, making the summit achievement even sweeter. “The generosity and encouragement from everyone back home has been overwhelming,” said Rob. “We couldn’t have done this without knowing so many people were rooting for us. It pushed us on when things got tough.
“We had moments where our legs were burning, and the air felt too thin to breathe, but we reminded each other why we were doing this, and it was a great feeling to finally reach the top, supported by SafeGuard Glass and Glazing!”
