Call to the young

By contrast, we record the passing of Maurice Anders, a founder member of the GGF, who remained active in the glass industry until his 90th year very recently. Read Story

Also, we have heard on the national news this week of tougher legislation being brought in to crack down on PPI and personal injury nuisance callers. While this may not impact directly on the ‘double-glazing’ cold-call outlaws, it will remind them that the net is closing on the practice as a whole.

And finally, The Glazine was at the launch of From Russia With Hope, the next GM Fundraising cycle marathon which is due to get on the road next June, more of which in next week’s issue.

Meanwhile, we hope there is something in this week’s issue for everyone.

Attract more young to tackle ‘dire housing crisis’ – McArdle

Arthur McArdle this week stepped in as the new FMB President with a pledge to put the skills shortage at the top of its agenda to help ‘build the nation of the housing crisis’.

He told delegates at the Federation’s AGM at the weekend: “The skills shortage the sector is facing is absolutely dire and the only way we can guarantee enough skilled construction workers in the future is by attracting more young people into the sector and training them to a high standard now.

‘Investments paying off’ for Deceuninck Group

Deceuninck Group saw first-half sales grow 0.8% to €341.5 million, with adjusted EBITDA growth up 10.4%, driven by recent investments and strong business development in the United States and Emerging Markets, says the company.

CEO Francis Van Eeckhout said: “We are in general pleased with the progress we made in the first half of 2018. Recent investments are paying off and our innovations are well received by the market. We continue to work on further reducing the ecological footprint of our products.”

Maurice Anders

The GGF has paid tribute to Maurice Anders, one of the Federation’s founder members, who has died, aged 91.

Maurice had worked in the Glass Industry all his life, firstly joining the family business, T A Anders & Co during the war, on the death of his father who had established it in 1931 after leaving Pilkington Glass.
