Roto buys Union Ltd
of China

Roto Frank AG has announced the acquisition of Union Ltd, a family-owned Chinese manufacturer of components and semi-finished parts for window and door hardware, in a move that the group describes as ‘supporting free trade instead of isolation’.

The group has assured other Union customers, including possible competitors of Roto, that Union will remain ‘a reliable partner’ for them as an independent business, rather than an integrated part of the group.

Burgess resigns as
GGF President

Alan Burgess has stepped down as President of the GGF with immediate effect, saying “It is with real regret that I feel unable to continue in this role and to step down prematurely.”

He had been President since February, succeeding Chief Executive Brian Baker, who had stepped in following the resignation of Andrew Glover exactly a year ago, citing pressure of time in the light of structural changes at the Federation.

Affordable homes lead new-build upturn

Over 30% more new affordable homes were registered with the NHBC in the second quarter of 2017 over last year, accounting almost entirely for an overall sector increase of 11%.

Figures from the organisation show 44,963 new homes in total were registered in Q2 against 40,641 in the same period last year but, out of these, the affordable sector grew 32%, from 9,426 to 12,402. At the same time, private sector registrations – though a much bigger number – put on 4% from 31,215 to 32,561.

Get set for P2P

Twelve fenestration females are limbering up for the last few weeks training before they start the Paddle2Pedal Challenge to try to raise over £50,000 for Hope House Children’s Hospice.

The first ever all-female GM Fundraising event will see the team canoe 100 miles of the River Wye, abseil the rock face at Symonds Yat, then cycle 120 miles to Oswestry.

Minister hears tax and Brexit concerns

Industry minister Claire Perry MP was told of industry concerns over insurance tax increases and the possible consequences of Brexit on raw materials during a visit to glazing systems supplier Wrightstyle.

The Devizes MP, who is Minister for Climate Change & Industry in the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Department, was visiting the locally-based company in response to issues it had raised over recent ‘considerable’ increases in Insurance Tax Premium and their impact on overheads.
