101 Embankment
11th July 2017

Around 8,000m2 of AGC Stopray Vision 50 solar control coated glass was used throughout the fully glazed façade of 101 Embankment, a new steel and glass 10-storey building set above the Grade 2 Listed viaduct of Manchester’s disused Exchange Station.

Also, Stopray Vision 50T was specified for the curved corners. AGC glass was chosen due to its neutral appearance and because the same visual appearance and technical performance could be achieved for the flat glazing as well as the curved glass.

AGC Stopray Vision 50 has a light transmission of 50% while blocking out out up to 72% of solar gain and offering a U value of 1.0 W/m2.K. Vision 50T is a coating that is suitable for processing treatments such as the toughening and curving of glass.

101 Embankment has achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating, as well as a highly efficient thermal performance which improves on current Part L requirements. It also received Commercial Development of the Year in the annual Insider North West Property Awards 2017. Sainsbury's has opened a 2,850 sq ft convenience store on the ground floor and Swinton Insurance has signed a lease agreement for all 165,000 sq ft of office space.

A further 164,000 sq ft of Grade A office accommodation is planned for the adjacent 100 Embankment. The scheme is a joint venture between Ask Real Estate, Carillion plc and Tristan Capital Partners, in partnership with Salford City Council and Network Rail. Architects for the project are Flanagan Lawrence.
