National decline

It must be significant when a second national installer comes up with bad news in the space of one month, especially amid whispers that some of the others are none too rosy at the moment either. Anglian is blaming Brexit uncertainty but many others say the rise of installer schemes as well as support from major fabricators and systems houses have revitalised many local operators into earning a bigger share of consumers’ trust, not to mention their money.

Also this week, very many in the industry will be saddened to hear of the death of Jon Skinner, most recently Epwin commercial director but with 40 years in the industry including roles with many of the major players. The affection many held for him is reflected in many of the social media references this past week, and The Glazine publisher Tony Higgin, who knew him well for many years, said he will be remembered for a breadth and depth of knowledge and experience that was matched by his benevolence to all those around him.

A far from happy beginning to the new year in many ways but may we at least wish you the best for the future in 2018.
