Market Gets the Wobbles
I have heard from several sources in the past few weeks that - despite the momentary feelgood factor that was Glassex - the industry is having a 'bit of a (down)turn'. Strangely, it appears to be across the board, with systems companies such as Premier Profiles and HW clearly suffering, alongside the big retailers such as Anglian, as we reported last week. Word is that showrooms are being closed down in other big retail chains as well, but even more surprising is that some of the supposed kings of the food chain, the 'super-fabricators' are now also exhibiting some wobbles.

While this may presage a major downturn, especially as the house market is now in decline and we are in the grip of election neurosis, I prefer to think of it as a measured contraction of a mature market. On the other hand, it may well be the beginning of an all out war to determine who has the deepest pockets, as our 'We Have Email' section suggests below. One thing is sure, the conservatory market is still flying, and both Synseal and Planet made it into the Sunday Times Profit Track 100 this year (at Nos 79 and 95 respectively).

Finally, your very last chance this week to get along to the Baron's Court Theatre in West London to see our media colleague Mike Gannon's production of Sean O'Casey's famously funny rant 'Cock-a-Doodle Dandy', more about which here. It runs until 17th April.
