Give That Baboon a Pin!
I don't know, a few people buy or sell some shares and suddenly bid speculation is rife. It reminds me of that - probably apocryphal - story in which a baboon sticking a pin into a list of stocks and shares came up with a better portfolio than a bunch of genuine traders. Over the last 7 days both Pilkington and Ultraframe have come under intense speculation from City rumourmongers, whose main interest presumably is to make a quick killing on rapidly rising and falling share prices.

The rumours are usually rubbish and it doesn't do industry any good to be constantly defending and commenting on such speculation. Perhaps we need another dot.com boom or tulip bulb fiasco to bring these greedy idiots back into line again.

Deceuninck Advert

Pilkington has naturally poured cold water on the bid rumours, saying that they are watching the share price like everyone else and why would Nippon be willing to pay 150p for the shares now, when they were trading around the 90p level in October/ November. Ultraframe, on the other hand has announced UK sales down in the first quarter, but as we reported a fortnight ago, there is more than a glimmer of hope from its US business. It has not commented on any bid rumours.
