Gallacher steps in at Safestyle for ‘performance improvement’
8th May 2018

Safestyle UK has confirmed that CEO Steve Birmingham has retired and is being replaced by turnaround specialist Mike Gallacher.

Birmingham, the former MD who became CEO after the company’s flotation in 2013, will remain as an executive director until he leaves the company at the end of the year.

Gallacher, a former British Army officer who has also held a number of roles at Mars Inc, was most recently CEO of dairy firm First Milk Ltd where he delivered a major turnaround leading to a £30 million boost to profitability in two years.

Safestyle’s recently appointed new chairman Peter Richardson said : "Mike is a great addition to the Safestyle team and I am pleased that he has agreed to join the board.

His leadership qualities and commercial and operational experience, particularly in relation to performance improvement, will be invaluable to the business at this stage in its development."

Steve Birmingham’s retirement is one of a number of recent top level departures – most latterly chairman Steve Halbert Read Story – amid declining shares and profit warnings, citing ‘an aggressive new market entrant’ as the main source of its woes – understood to be a reference to Safeglaze UK, a me-too operation that has warned that its competitors should be scared Read Story.
