Avocet
Launches New Document F 2006 Compliant Trickle Ventilator
With
the introduction of revised Document F of the Building Regulations regarding
ventilation, manufacturers are required to test all ventilation products
to BS EN 13141 testing standards. New dwellings now need to achieve an
overall total background ventilation equivalent area figure as well as
the equivalent area minimum set for each room.
This typically means that more background ventilation is required than
before in order to remove stale indoor air from a building and replace
it with fresh outdoor air. Trickle ventilators are the traditional method
of achieving this and Avocet Hardware
has launched a brand new trickle vent that fully complies with all new
and existing legislation.
Fully independently tested in accordance to BSEN: 13141-1:2004 and manufactured
from BBA accredited UV stabilised PVCu, the Avocet TrickleVent is robust,
smooth and elegantly rounded in design, and is available as 2005EA and
5000EA.
Achieving a water tightness limit of 400 pa, it has been acoustically
tested to BS EN 20140-10:1992 for sound insulation achieving up to 39dB.
A multiflap control on the 5000EA model ensures greater control of airflow,
allowing the size of the trickle vent to remain unobtrusive. Each vent
can be fitted for either up draught or down draught operation to PVCu,
timber and aluminium windows. Weather performance is tested to BS 1026
and 1027:2000 and optional sleeves are available to fully comply with
BS 7412:2002.
The Avocet TrickleVent has been specifically developed for the volume
market, comments Stephanie Wright, Marketing Manager for Avocet.
Its aesthetic design reflects the growing trend towards softer lines
and ease of fit. It complies fully with the regulations for all window
trickle vent installation.
Available in Bright White, Brown and Tan, the Avocet TrickleVent features
snap on end caps and positive open and close actions with an integral
flyscreen in the external hood.

As part of its hardware upgrade, Consort has standardised throughout with
Nico Supercoat 500 silver finish anti-corrosion marine specification

DIY
Window Film Boom Prompts Company to Re-brand
As
trends in home decorating and improvement rarely stand still, at least
one online retail company is taking advantage of the popularity boom in
frosted window designs. Over the past five years, home owners have discovered
that this stylish look can be achieved cheaply by applying plain or patterned
frosted window film to any window surface.
The
adaptable film has been regularly featured on popular home improvement
programmes such as Property Ladder, Changing Rooms and House Doctor. Cheaper
than etched glass and a more contemporary alternative to net curtains,
its popularity has soared amongst DIYers on a budget.
Etchfx, established in 1998 re-launched in the UK in December as Window
Wallpaper. The company supplies plain & patterned frosted window film
which covers glass to create a frosted effect.
It is most widely used on front doors to screen homeowners from the outside
world as well as windows, mirrors and patio doors. Currently over 200,000
homes in the UK use this type of material somewhere in the home.
Patrick Green, Managing Director of Window Wallpaper explains the reasons
for the re-branding. 'We have experienced a real surge in demand for our
product as people have come to recognise window film as a classic but
affordable option to expensive, specially treated glass and gives home
a more contemporary look that net curtains.
We felt that, just as our product changes according to demand, so should
our company. We decided to re- name the company as Window Wallpaper as
we felt that this perfectly encapsulates what we do.'
Alongside the name change, Wallpaper for Windows has launched a new website
(http://www.windowwallpaper.co.uk)
to showcase the company's products. Customers can also order online from
an increased range of designs, including a new range of low cost window
wallpaper known as the value range.
The new designs include Victorian, Edwardian, Art Deco and contemporary
patterns. Prices start from £45.00 per sq. metre with the value
range starting at £29 per sq. metre.
Inagas
Argon Fillers Now Fitted with Test Counters as Standard for Even Easier
Operation
For
more than 15 years Inagas says that
it has pioneered techniques and set the standards for argon gas filling
and now, with three of the company's most popular products argon filling
is set to be even easier and more accurate.
Inagas
IGA30, IGA60 and IGA200 machines are now supplied with Test Counters as
standard equipment, the only machines available in the UK with this feature.
The counters significantly improve ease of use and efficiency by counting
the number of fills completed in addition to daily and accumulative data,
at a glance.
Inagas filling machines are designed for efficiency, reliability and ease
of operation providing gas flow rates up to 180 litres per minute with
consistent accuracy in percentage fill rates. All Inagas machines combine
the latest easy-to-use control systems within proven and reliable design
parameters and are the most technically advanced gas filling machines
available.
The heart of the Inagas technology is the dispenser's ability to detect
the presence of gas in the IG unit and constantly monitor the percentage
fill rate during the filling process. The entire filling process is automatic:
The filling sequence is initiated simply by pressing the start button
with no further action needed; the gas flow is stopped automatically when
the required gas fill percentage has been reached.
The touch pad controls enable gas percentage levels to be changed, dwell
times to be altered, gas calibration to be checked and the display also
provides fault finding analysis. 'The addition of the Test Counters provides
the most comprehensive data readout of any machines available,' says the
company.

Meet
the Challenge.......
Jason Wilder of CWG developed the
MultiFold door using Rehau Tritec profile and Siegenia hardware. They proved
to be a perfect match to produce the product that Jason envisaged and
has subsequently proved so popular.
As
ever, in this industry, it is not long before an innovation is put to
the supreme test and a real challenge comes along to try the design (and
nerves) to the limit.
The challenge seemed innocent and straight forward. The customer simply
wanted some five and half metres of open door space. A second look started
the mind racing as to the implications of creating this monster. In fact,
it meant seven leaves with many moving parts all to function perfectly.
It had to have Astragal bars lining through seven moving leaves. Finally,
having resolved all that, the door had to be loaded and transported to
its final destination, without damage. That required six strong men to
be on site at the right time and one large lorry.
A challenge is a challenge and by definition, difficulties have to be
overcome. So after careful design and manufacture, the door was made.
By careful planning it was delivered and fitted. So now there is one very
happy customer, who is delighted with the MultiFold. The customer was
then left with the problem of landscaping the garden, to give maximum
effect to both MultiFold and garden.
Astragal bars continue to be popular and can be fitted to any of the wide
range of products offered by CWG Choices Ltd. For Rehau 70, Tritec and
Shield the bars will have sculptured bar/bead on the inside and bevelled
on the outside. With Kömmerling Connoisseur the bar/bead is sculptured
inside and out. Due to their complexity, astragal bar grids are always
supplied factory glazed, which gives peace of mind to all concerned

New
Developments make the Haffner SBA Machining Centre the Fastest in its
Class
Haffner
says that new developments will ensure the companys well-established
SBA Cutting and Machining Centre maintains its reputation for being
the best choice for fabricators looking to automate their processes.
These
developments include an additional saw unit. This increases production
output by a minimum of 25% - and makes it the fastest machine of its type.
It means sawing can now be separated and channelled using Haffner's specially
developed optimisation software. As well as the obvious speed benefits,
this also puts the machine at the forefront of waste management because
the macros are optimised as well as the order of cutting.
In addition a reinforcing station can be added onto the machine at an
additional cost. This saves both time and space on the factory floor because
it means fully laden trolleys don't have to be moved to a separate reinforcing
area before being replaced by trolleys ready for the next batch.
The further improved SBA machining centre will take centre stage for Haffner
at Glassex 2007. Members of the Haffner GB Ltd team will also be on hand
to answer questions and give live demonstrations throughout the 4-day
show.
Among those fabricators taking early advantage of Haffner's new machine
are MPH Windows, Classic North East, OK Windows in Belfast and Euroglaze
of Barnsley. The four companies all placed their orders in the run up
to Christmas and helped ensure a strong end to 2006 for Haffner. The machines
are scheduled to be installed in February and March.
Haffner says that it was delighted with sales during 2006, and if early
indications are anything to go by, 2007 looks like being a similarly good
year. The companys diary is full of factory visits to fabricators
wanting to avoid the post-Glassex rush and its beating its sales
target of closing two sales a month.
Managing Director Dave Thomas says, We have a superb product that
brings demonstrable production benefits to fabricators. Coupled with our
high quality consultancy and customer service, it's a recipe for success.
