It may be the Cinderella of the window industry but the matter of the choice of steel reinforcement looks set to be the next topic of controversy with more than an echo of last year’s saga of non-bonded Residence frames.
Just as then, the big brands – in this case the systems suppliers – are defending the use of their own supplied steels, leading one rival manufacturer to resort to the irrefutable statistics of the independent test house. And now it is fair to guess that, just as with the Residence debacle, this week’s opening salvo is very unlikely to be the last we will hear of the matter. Read more

Speaking of Cinderella sectors, we have heard little lately about glass recycling while PVC has taken most of the limelight but now one project is showing that it is just as easy, if not easier, to put back into the system. Read more
And finally, the inevitable spectre of declining construction is once again blamed on political uncertainty. While the general election has brought clarity to the headline news, we must wait and see whether it will make the horizon any clearer for those further down the economic food chain. Read more
