Stormy weather
There were widespread thunderstorms across the UK as this pre-holiday issue of The Glazine was being wrapped up. But the loudest rumble of all came from the GGF which announced that its CEO/MD Kevin Buckley and Head of Membership Richard Hearn are ‘no longer employed by the Federation’, with top technical man Steve Rice stepping in as MD.
It has now been over a year since the federation tried to settle the storm following a string of departures by saying such things are inevitable during such extensive restructuring and things seemed to settle down since then – at least to outside observers – but it is obvious from today’s announcement that the troubled times are far from over. Elsewhere, and in complete contrast, who would have thought a year ago that Safestyle UK would be reporting ‘steady as she goes’ in its half-year report? It may not yet be blazing the trail for retail in the sector but an impressive leap in market share against only a small loss is far better than many might have expected at the height of its troubles. Read more
And it only remains to say that not only will The Glazine be taking our two-week summer break until we return on August 20, but the final hopefuls in the G19 Awards have also been given a breather and now have until the new deadline of 19th August to complete their entries.
