Plans about plans

It is perhaps ironic that the latest Government announcement of more plans about plans to solve the housing crisis has come in the wake of a ten-year record cold spell that has taken the life of at least one homeless rough-sleeper. However, there is probably little to add to what has by now been thoroughly chewed over by all national media except to say – with no apologies for repetition – we’ll believe it when it happens.

Planning overhaul launched

The government yesterday (5 March) launched what it says is a major overhaul to the National Planning Policy Framework – the first in 6 years – ‘to deliver the homes the country needs’.

Housing Secretary Sajid Javid, said: “An entire generation is being locked out of a broken housing market as prices and rents race ahead of supply. Reforming the planning system is the crucial next step to building the homes the country needs.

“This government is determined to fix the broken housing market and restore the dream of home ownership for a new generation. There is no silver bullet to this problem but we’re re-writing the rules on planning so we can take action on all fronts.

Corgi says support user survey after Hackitt report

The Corgi Fenestration Installer Scheme has been asked by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (the new name for DCLG) to urge the fenestration industry to participate in its Approved Documents User Survey by its closing date of midnight tonight (6th March).

The Ministry is looking for comment on all the Approved Documents and it is important it hears the views of those who use the documents. It wants to understand how industry uses the guidance provided to discern the functional requirements of the Building Regulations.

This work is in response to a recommendation Dame Judith Hackitt has made in her Interim Report of her Review of the Building Regulations and Fire Safety. She has recommended that the government consider how the suite of Approved Documents could be structured and ordered to provide a more streamlined, holistic view while retaining the right level of relevant technical detail.

First ‘A’ label for
Accoya VS

Family run GB Joinery is claiming a first after gaining a BFRC ‘A’ Rating for a VS Accoya window– and one of only 23 companies to have official A ratings on any timber VS.

The accreditation was supported by Censolutions, as GB’s General manager Karl Garforth explained: “As well as our Window Energy Rating, we also hold PAS24: 2016 on our stormproof and flush fitting casements in Accoya and hardwood as well as weather performance testing BS 6375 and CMS Certification on a range of window and door products to cover CE Marking and EN 14351. Censolutions makes the process easy. We see them twice a year for auditing purposes but they are always on hand in the meantime should we need any assistance.”

Censolutions Joint Managing Director Wayne Rogerson added: “GB Joinery is a well invested, extremely experienced joinery company making some truly fantastic products.

We Have Email

From: Paul Atkinson,
Sales and Commercial Director,
Yale Door and Window Solutions

Standards and legislation surrounding windows and doors are constantly evolving, and we understand the importance of complying with the very latest developments. As a result, the team is on hand to offer their expert advice to ensure you are manufacturing and installing compliant products.

One such standard that has recently been revised is PAS24:2016. The updated door standard now stipulates that any external doors to be fitted with a letterplate must meet the new criteria set out in TS008. In order to meet the TS008 testing requirements, the letterplate must eliminate the risk of a potential burglar gaining access by means of physical force or through ‘fishing’ and unlocking of the door through the letterplate aperture.
