It doesn’t take the horrific events across the channel, in the skies and on the holiday beaches to remind us that security takes as many forms as those it sets out to thwart, because it is just as important in every home as it is in the danger zones around the world.

So, with no apology, we are revisiting the subject this week with news of further significant steps, most notably in recognition for standards in security locks from the insurance industry read story, not to mention one leading door manufacturer that is soon to fit one of the toughest locks to every door it makes read story.

And just because the relevant standard for locks has a ‘007’ in its title doesn’t mean we will stoop from being the only publication in the known universe to resist giving a certain movie a plug.

We will however remind you that it is just ten days from the undisputed high point in the industry calendar, the G15 Awards read story.

DHF calls on insurers to follow lock security lead

The Door & Hardware Federation is calling on other insurance companies to follow the lead of one major UK insurance company which has announced it is advising its domestic insurance policy holders to choose TS 007-rated security for their entrance doors.

Michael Skelding, General Manager and Secretary of the DHF said today in making the call: "The DHF developed the TS 007 standard, working with the Glass & Glazing Federation, BSI, Secured by Design and other industry organisations. We've been liaising closely with the RISCAuthority, the insurance-backed organisation that supports best practice in the protection of property and business.

Green Deal and ZCH – Commons hears the lessons learned

The lessons learned from previous home energy efficiency schemes such as Green Deal and Zero Carbon Homes are due to come under scrutiny today (November 17) as the Commons Select Committee on Energy and Climate Change resumes to hear evidence on ‘Home Energy Efficiency and Demand Reduction’.

The Committee, in its introduction to the debate says: “Energy efficiency and demand reduction is one of the most cost effective ways to cut carbon emissions, improve energy security and reduce consumer bills.

480,000 tonnes PVC recycled = 1,000 jobs created = 1m tonnes
CO2 saved

Over 480,000 tonnes of waste PVC recycled across Europe in 2014 contributed to the creation of around 1,000 direct jobs in recycling plants as well saving a million tonnes of CO2 emissions, according to VinylPlus, the sustainable development programme of the European PVC industry.
Waste PVC materials, including 11.8 million window frames were recycled through the European-wide network of 155 Recovinyl-accredited recyclers.

UK points the way in battle against lock snapping

Italy, it seems has a lot to learn from the UK in the battle against lock-snapping, according to Avocet Managing Director Clive Lloyd in a recent address to the annual European Neighbourhood Watch Association (EUNWA) conference in that country.

He was invited to speak at the event following a trip to Italy during September, where he and his marketing team presented its answer to lock-snapping to an audience of leading police officers and detectives from the country’s various police forces.
