IMI,
and daughter company Polypipe, have persevered bravely with Premier
Profiles for several years, and were even prepared to offset £25m
against compensation claims for profile discolouration, which is still
the subject of a legal dispute between IMI and its raw material suppliers.
Now it appears that other problems have led to unsustainable financial
losses in 2004, with no hope of recovery for 2005, leading to the closure
of the company.

Premier Profiles has a proud history in the UK PVC-U fenestration industry and it is a sad day for its 220 employees who are facing redundancy. It is also another unmistakable sign that we are facing a year which will not be a pleasant ride for all.

must of course flag up the fantastic achievement late last night our
time by solo
British yachtswoman Ellen MacArthur MBE who beat the previous round-the-world
sailing record by Frenchman Francis Joyon by over a day. Navy patrolboat
HMS Severn was on hand to guide her into Falmouth after she crossed
the winning line after 71 days aboard her trimaran 'B&Q'. There
is quite a nifty little animated guide to her journey on the BBC website
