Windowman
Makes Dreams Come True for Youngsters
Deserving
children from the North East enjoyed a VIP football day out thanks to
the generosity of one of Profile 22's major commercial fabricators, Windowman
UK Ltd.
Windowman
UK Ltd has a long-standing partnership agreement with the council and
over the last few years has refurbished more than 800 properties in the
Wear Valley area.
MD and life-long Aston Villa supporter, Brendan Fitzgerald made dreams
come true for five youngsters who had been nominated by Wear Valley District
Council for their community-minded actions in charity and fund-raising
work.
The children, aged between eight and 15, were invited along with a parent
or guardian to watch the Aston Villa vs Newcastle match from Windowman's
executive box at the Aston Villa ground. All received special promotional
souvenir packs of the day.
Says Brendan: 'The club even exchanged my executive box for a larger one
so everyone had plenty of room to enjoy the match and the hospitality.
Everything went swimmingly, apart from the result! Newcastle beat us 1-nil!'
He adds: 'As we are a major partner, we wanted to put something back and
have also donated £1,000 to the council's Street Warden Scheme which
will go towards funding new uniforms for the voluntary patrols.'
In a letter to Brendan, Chair of the council's Housing Services Committee,
Cllr Belle Bousfield, wrote: 'The kindness and generosity shown by Windowman
UK Ltd was well appreciated by all concerned. The residents have all commented
upon their enjoyment of the day.'
Working in partnership with its key local authority customers is reaping
rewards for Windowman UK Ltd. It has completed some 800 properties in
a long-established partnership arrangement with Wear Valley District Council
and Profile 22.

Profile
22 'Plods' for Charity
Twenty
one Profile 22 employees recently
raised more than £1,500 in aid of Cancer Research UK in a five kilometre
Race for Life round Telford Town Park.
The self-styled 'Profile 22 Plodders' made it round the scenic route in
times varying between 30 minutes and an hour, with the slower team members
strolling and chatting in the hot summer sunshine.
Heidi Palmer organised the team, helped by Wendy McDonald who commented:
'Myself and two colleagues, Debbie Clarke and Marie Corrigan, jogged round
in 30 minutes which was hard work in the heat. But it was well worth the
effort for a good cause on what turned out to be a very enjoyable day.'
Profile 22's Marketing Services Manager Sharon Rees decided to take the
more leisurely approach and completed the course in just under an hour.
She said: 'It was too hot to run, so the rest of us decided to take it
gently. I think I burned more energy and got hotter in the 20-minute aerobic
beforehand, but everyone had fun and felt better for the exercise!'
Keith White, Managing Director of Profile 22, applauded the sterling efforts
of his team and donated an extra £200.

Veka
Girls Raise Blood Pressures and £££'s for Charity
Although
it originally began as a joke, the cheque handed over to charity by ladies
working for systems manufacturer Veka
for sales of their saucy calendar was very serious indeed! For following
record sales of the 2003 edition of the charity calendar, the Veka girls
have handed over nearly £3,000 to worthy cause Marie Curie Cancer
Care.
The
Veka calendar started a couple of years ago when female employees at the
Burnley based company dared the boys to pose for a company calendar. This
proved so successful with the money raised going to a men's cancer charity
that the boys thought the girls should reciprocate in 2003. And the girls,
from all departments at Veka's Burnley headquarters, responded enthusiastically
to be photographed by a professional glamour photographer in a number
of sexy poses.
Veka employees Vicky Naughton and Lynda Calverley instigated the original
challenge and both appeared in the 2003 edition. They were present with
the other 17 calendar pin ups at the presentation ceremony to Mrs Lyn
Fenton, the charity's community fund raising manager for the Lancashire
region, together with a Granada TV crew who filmed the event for the local
evening news show.
News of the calendar has travelled fast with copies being requested in
the USA and one to Lancashire born David Waterworth who emigrated to Canada
in 1997. David heard about the calendar by reading the local newspapers
on line and donated a sum to local children's cancer charities in exchange
for a copy.
After the success of the last two years, the Veka girls have a dilemma
on their hands - what an earth are they going to come up with next year?
'There's only so much we can take off!' said Vicky Naughton.

Mark
Warren Jumps off Building for Charity
On
10th May, Mark Warren, who is not generally known for his athleticism,
has bravely agreed to take the plunge over the side of one of Hanley's
tallest buildings (along with three of his staff) and abseil down to the
ground.
Why? You may well ask.
Well it's to help raise money for the Royal National Institute for the
Blind.
The RNIB supports the needs of blind and partially sighted people, some
with multiple disabilities. Your Generosity will help to change their
lives in ways that we, with the gift of sight can only imagine. The money
raised by this charity event will help to fund RNlB Schools which provide
education, support and encouragement for visually impaired children aged
4 to 19 years with multiple disabilities.
Can you help? Any donations, whether from your company or individually,
will be greatly appreciated by the charity.
If you can give your support please click here
for a downloadable pdf of the contribution form and send it along
with your payment as soon as possible to Listers for the care of Mark
Warren. Please make any cheques payable to RNIB. We would like to present
your donations on the day of the event.
Thank you very much indeed for your support!
Best Regards
Mark Warren

Listers
recently raised over £1250.00 for Comic Relief.
Staff and customers joined in the fun by wearing fancy dress, having their
chests and legs waxed (pictured - OUCH!), and one member of staff had
a sponsored day of silence.
All enjoyed the day but better than that all the money raised will help
others to have a better life.

Competitor
Support Benefits National Charity
Mutual
respect between competing manufacturers has resulted in support for a
national charity appeal.
Hardware
and ventilation systems manufacturer Siegenia-Aubi Ltd supported Roto
Frank in a fundraising initiative that took Roto sales director, Adrian
Vicker, from Land's End to John O'Groats and back to Dover in less than
36 hours on a marathon motorcycle journey.
Adrian approached customers to help raise money for the BBC's Children
In Need appeal as well as competitor and neighbouring Midlands-based operation,
Siegenia. Says Adrian, 'Of course we are competitors on paper, but there
has always been a high level of mutual respect between our two organisations
and it's great to see competitors pulling together to raise funds for
a worthy cause: something you don't often see in this industry!'
Siegenia donated £500 to Adrian's appeal, which to date has raised
over £5,639.30 for the national children's charity.
During the 1,656-mile journey Adrian and his brother, Mike, braved conditions
ranging from rain and ice to gales and floods. He says, 'It was hell at
the time but it's incredibly satisfying to look back at the conditions
we overcame to complete the challenge. I'm planning to do it all again
next year, but this time heading south to Spain in search of some sunshine.
I'm hoping I might even be able to tempt Siegenia along for the ride!'
Siegenia general manager, Lèann Hearne adds, 'It's an amazing achievement
and we're pleased to have been able to support Adrian's efforts, but I'm
afraid I'd have to choose sponsorship over participation again next year!'
Sash's
Christmas Festivities Aid Local Children's Hospice
Staff
of the Barnsley based window, door and conservatory manufacturer Sash
UK turned Santa this Christmas by raising £2,640 in support of the
Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice Appeal. The hospice to be built at Balby
in Doncaster will serve the communities of South Yorkshire and the North
Midlands, providing care for over 300 children, and support for their
families. Half of the Sash donation was raised by a raffle during the
Sash Christmas party, with the company's directors stepping in to match
the amount.
In the South Yorkshire area families of children with life limiting and
terminal iIlnesses have to travel miles to a hospice in Loughborough,
as the nearest alternative hospice at Wetherby is over subscribed. Bluebell
Wood will offer short respite and holiday stays for these children and
their families, support families in their own homes, and provide specialist
medical teams and professionals to give support and crisis intervention
24 hours a day as well as bereavement support.
Joint Managing Director of Sash UK David Ruzicka commented: 'Not only
did we have an excellent party, but the best present any of us gave this
Christmas was the money for the kids and their families.'
