Saint-Gobain hosts TV’s Hamster
Saint-Gobain’s Eggborough float plant in Yorkshire is appearing on television, in a programme fronted by Richard Hammond.
TV star Richard Hammond visited Saint-Gobain Glass’s Eggborough float plant during filming of an episode of National Geographic Channel’s popular ‘Engineering Connections’ series. The episode, which will first be broadcast at 9pm on 14 September on the National Geographic Channel, looks at how a 19th-century sailing ship, a gas mask and even a set of false teeth inspired the design of the world-famous Sydney Opera House.
Susan Lambeth, senior product manager for Saint-Gobain Glass who assisted with the filming, said that Hammond’s visit delighted all those who met him: “Richard was really nice and especially great with the local school children. It was a fascinating day and we look forward to seeing the episode. We are sworn to secrecy about our demonstration, so tune in on the 14th!”
School children from Eggborough Primary School were invited along to meet the presenter and help him to leave a memento of his visit by planting a tree, part of Saint-Gobain Glass’s programme to plant a tree for every 10 tonnes of the company’s annual landfill waste reduced. Richard and the children planted the 21st tree, marking a huge reduction in the waste reduction targets for the Eggborough site.
