Back to school

Veka has declared 2010 to be its ‘Year of Learning’ after making the Learning and Skills Council’s Skills Pledge for employers.

All employees will be encouraged to take up new and existing training opportunities and the company aims to offer more development qualifications during the year.

MD Dave Jones said: “We have always made training a priority all across the company so we are more than happy to demonstrate this public commitment by making the Pledge.

“Many colleagues have already started on their way, with courses or NVQs, but it will also provide benefits and qualifications for others.”

Business Link Northwest skills adviser Andrew Stone, who informed Veka about the Skills Pledge, added: “In these challenging times for many businesses it’s great to see such a high profile company in the region demonstrating the commitment to staff development by making the Skills Pledge.”

In making the Pledge, Veka has publicly committed to support team members and new recruits to develop their basic skills and work towards relevant qualifications to at least Level 2 – the equivalent of five GCSEs at grades A-C.
