Cavalok and loaded for this year's Ecobuild
Cavalok Building Products, the UK’s leading manufacturer of sustainable cavity closers, will be demonstrating its latest innovative products at this year’s ecobuild.
Cavalok is the only manufacturer of BBA-accredited cavity closer systems made from 100 per cent post-consumer recycled PVC-u.
The Cavalok product range, along with accessories, is designed to improve thermal performance of the wall as well as closing the cavity around doors and windows in line with Building Regulations requirements. Using a Cavalok cavity closer can therefore significantly improve the energy efficiency and sustainability of a building.
In addition to the core range of products on display at the show will be the Big Blok system, which was introduced in response to the Code for Sustainable Homes and other regulatory changes that demanded greater energy performance in buildings. Following introduction of these more stringent requirements, building designers are discovering that they have to increase the width of the cavity to accommodate more insulation and achieve better U-values.
Big Blok is designed specifically to close these wider cavities, above 125mm and up to 300mm. Cavalok holds stock of 125mm and 150mm Big Blok cavity closers to ensure availability for customers on site. Incremental sizes are available to special order.
300mm Big Blok has already been used to meet zero carbon Code Level 6 requirements.
The company is predicting an increased demand for Big Blok as the legislation on thermal performance and therefore cavity thicknesses tightens over the next few years. 125mm & 150mm cavities are already a common thickness on many developments.
Insulation used in all of Cavalok’s cavity closures has an Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) of zero and a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of below five. This insulation forms a continuous band ensuring the cavity closer performs in the field as designed.
Cavity closers are not subject to U-value calculations, however with a full band of insulation the Big Blok system exceeds the latest ACD requirements of 0.45 m²k/W with a thermal resistance value of 0.77 m²k/W and 1.56 m²k/W in check reveal position. Cavalok closers complement wall designs with U-values better than 0.15. This means the Big Blok system can be confidently specified for all code levels.
Cavalok Building Products was recently acquired by Eurocell, the UK’s leading manufacturer and distributor of quality PVC-u window, door and conservatory roof systems. Eurocell itself is committed to recycling as much waste as possible from its manufacturing process and last year alone recycled around 3,000 tonnes of PVC-u. It has achieved ISO14001, the internationally recognized standard for environmental performance.
