PVC-U – helping to save the planet and to save money
Double savings on PVC-U double glazing is the new message from PVCaware.org in a new campaign to be run by the British Plastics Federation Windows Group in the spring with the aim of demonstrating the material’s environmental and budget-friendly advantages to specifiers and end-users.
A new version of the logo with the words recyclable, sustainable and affordable added is being made available this month for use by window companies to support the campaign.
The wording was agreed by members of the Windows Group, several of whom commented that they repeatedly found that few people outside the industry know that PVC-U windows are recyclable and pass sustainability standards with flying colours.
Jon Skinner, who chairs the BPF’s PVCaware.org committee, says: “PVC’s environmental credentials are well proven, but as yet, they are little known, in part because the majority of the tests are relatively new. Equally, few people are aware how recyclable PVC-U is. The double benefit is that it has environmental advantages and is affordable.”
