Marley Eternit Cedral weatherboard is just the wicket
An old village hall has been given a new lease of life thanks to timber-frame designers Suffolk Timber Construction and Marley Eternit’s fibre cement Cedral Weatherboard.
The brief from Milden Parish Council for a new 120m² village hall/cricket pavilion was to keep it as low maintenance as possible, inside and out, on a tight budget of £80,000. It also needed to contain changing rooms for the cricket teams, showers, a kitchen and main hall for carpet bowls.
Suffolk Timber Construction, a division of Suffolk Sheds, designed a single-storey, timber-frame structure that was built in panel form in their workshop near Colchester, then erected on site and clad with Marley Eternit’s weather and fire-resistant (to Class O) Cedral Weatherboard which was factory coated in a cream colour
Managing director Tim James said: “We specified the Marley Eternit weatherboard as we knew it would give them the low-maintenance they required plus the added bonus of its fire proof qualities which helped with Building Regulations.
“We have used the Marley Eternit weatherboard many times before, mainly on projects which need to comply with fire regulations, such as garages. In this case we put together the planning application and it went through with no problems.”
As well as the Cedral Weatherboard, which looks so much like timber it is hard to tell the difference until you are close up, the low-maintenance theme is carried through with a pitched roof and uPVC double-glazed windows and doors.
“The old, 70s-style flat-roof pavilion required so much work it was a better option to knock it down and build a new one but it is right opposite a church and within a Conservation Area so we knew it had to be pleasing to everyone,” said Tim.
As well as sheds and beach huts, Suffolk Sheds now supplies and installs high-quality summerhouses and log cabins through its TJ Creations division, and larger timber-frame building projects such as pool houses and churches through the Suffolk Timber Construction division.
