NETWORK VEKA has teamed up with The Vocational College to establish the Network Veka Academy, offering courses that provide both practical work experience and recognised qualifications for workers in the fenestration industry.

Designed to address a skills shortage in the wider construction and building industry, the Academy offers Network Veka members the opportunity to ensure their installers are suitably qualified, with the added bonus of financial assistance from generous subsidies secured by Network Veka and The Vocational College.

Network Veka MD, John Ogilvie explained: “Working alongside The Vocational College, an award-winning learning provider with strong links to the Glass Qualifications Authority (GQA),we've compiled an offering to suit a range of circumstances.

“From 5-6 month Traineeships - introducing 16-24 year-olds to our industry and organisation - through to 18-month Advanced Apprenticeships that offer experienced workers a valuable Level 3 NVQ qualification, Network Veka Academy courses are tailored to our member companies’ needs. Transferable skills, such as English, Maths, social and interview techniques are developed alongside practical, industry-focussed elements of study, with modules on employer's rights and responsibilities completing a comprehensive, well-rounded prospectus.”

Besides providing qualification incentives for installers who already work for Network Veka members, the Academy offers the opportunity to advertise for suitable trainees, free-of-charge, in appropriate media - the National Apprentice Service (NAS), for example.

John continued: “We've made it really easy to take on a trainee with minimal costs to the member company – in fact, other than expenses like travel and Personal Protection Equipment, it's essentially free!

“By the end of the traineeship, members should have an employable candidate with a working knowledge of their business, Network Veka, and the skills necessary to progress to an Intermediate Apprenticeship. We think that's ample incentive for both company and trainee to nurture a continuing, loyal and mutually beneficial working relationship.”
