U-value door certificates
31st January 2012

Tradelink is now offering a U-value certificate with every door it sells.

Jim Moody, managing director of Tradelink said: “Although at the end of last year we heard about the launch of the Door Energy Ratings scheme as an alternative way to measure the energy performance of a door, at the moment U-values still offer the only route of compliance with Building Regulations.

“There has been much discussion and debate as to how to prove the U-value of a door and what evidence installers need to prove the performance of their doors, which is why we now offer a U-value certificate with every door we sell.

“The U-value certificate we offer comes in two parts. The first part is for the retailer and includes a drawing of the door with the relevant product information attached, while the second part includes the calculations that achieved the U-value to demonstrate how the door satisfies Building Regulations. The certificates are produced in conjunction with the Build Check certified calculation.

“The current regulations state that new doors fitted in new dwellings with more than 50% of their internal face area glazed, must achieve a U-value of 2.0W/m2K, while all other doors must achieve a 1.8W/m2K. When replacing a door in an existing dwelling however, the U-value must be 1.8W/m2K regardless of the glazed area.

“All Tradelink’s doors meet or exceed the existing regulations but we wanted to help our customers further by providing them with the evidence they need to prove their doors are compliant and make getting through building regulations an easier process.”
