D&G Consulting has recently completed a detailed report on the volumes and values of the UK sealed unit market for PVC-U and timber windows, doors and conservatories.
Using the latest construction industry and economic forecasts, the study tracks sealed unit volume and value routes to market across private housing RMI, social housing improvements, social housing new build, private housing new build and non-housing. Product sectors covered include windows, doors (PVC-U panel, composite, patio, bi-fold and french) and conservatories, with a special focus on projected demand for A to C energy ratings and triple glazing.
David Amos, Principal of D&G said: “Not surprisingly, with volumes of windows and doors half of what they were a decade ago, the sealed unit sector too has seen its fair share of pain. And although volumes will remain flat, it’s not really until 2014 that we will see some kind of growth in value of the IGU market. This will be driven by a combination of selling price increases, the forecast penetration of more energy efficient A rated windows and triple glazing, and an increase in demand for specialist products like decorative glazing.
“So overall, the numbers do not make encouraging reading, but there are pockets for confidence, especially when analysing the product lines into which IGU go. Looking at 2011 alone by percentage value market share, we can see the dominance of windows, the importance of conservatories still underpinning sealed unit sales, and of course, the growing importance of composite doors in the value chain. How will this look in 2014? This latest study has the answers.”
