With the launch of window energy rating schemes from Certass and BSI, things are perhaps getting a little more complicated for those companies who are still trying to understand exactly what they need to do next.
Some window companies are still debating whether to go for Window Energy Ratings (WERS) or U-Values. Some are still hanging their hopes on a delay in the introduction to the revised Part L. We know now there will be no delay.
But many firms are already benefiting from selling WERs. The reason: homeowners prefer products that save energy and reduce their heating bills, and they recognise and understand the WER label.
Our efforts should be targeted on helping everyone – whatever their size – get the WER ratings they need so they can win new business once the October deadline has passed. Anything that makes life more difficult, more complicated, time consuming or expensive for fabricators and installers will deter companies from benefiting from WERs.
