Business is booming for Scottish based window, door and building envelope supplier CMS, which has increased turnover by £5 million and staff numbers by 30% in the last 12 months.
In a record year for the company, turnover has increased from £15 million to £20 million in the last financial year thanks to a string of new contracts with major developers, local authorities and contractors, including Graham Construction, Bam Construction and British Gas. These contracts build on an already significant order book, which cements the company’s position as one of the leading window, door and building envelope suppliers to the construction, social housing, newbuild and trade markets throughout Scotland and England.
During the same period, staff numbers have grown from 142 to 185, including 15 apprentices. That makes CMS one of the fastest growing manufacturing businesses in Scotland, providing much-needed local employment opportunities and supporting other local suppliers.
Andrew Kerr, MD at CMS said: “We’re now seeing more sustained growth compared to the last few years, and this bodes extremely well for the coming years. We’ve worked hard to put in place the very best quality products and manufacturing processes, and combined this with a programme to ensure we have amongst the most highly skilled fabricators and installers in the industry. It’s a strategy that we believe has been the catalyst for recent growth.”
The company’s dedication to providing opportunities for young people was praised recently at a recent visit by the Scottish Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Tourism, Fergus Ewing MSP. He said, “It’s terrific that young people are being given opportunities to work and train at CMS - companies like CMS across Scotland that are household names
are providing the most opportunities and that’s great to see.”
CMS operates from a 15-acre modern manufacturing and recycling facility in Castlecary, North Lanarkshire, with additional facilities in Kirkcaldy, Fife. With strong environmental credentials and energy efficiency at the core of its business, the company produces more than 100,000 window units and thousands of square metres of curtain walling every year. This production capability benefits from continuous investment in manufacturing and design technology. In the last six years alone, CMS has invested in excess of £4m in these resources which has delivered greater efficiency across all areas of production.
