Rehau restructure threatens Slough and Amlwch – plus flexible shifts at Blaenau
29th January 2019
Rehau UK this week issued an assurance that its external sales capability will not be affected by restructuring plans to close its Slough sales office and Amlwch PVC edgeband plant as well as changes to the shift pattern at its Blaenau window profile plant.
The company proposes to move Slough admin services to Manchester as part of a new central sales hub. In a statement, it continues: “this proposal, if actioned, will not affect our external sales capability. The employees affected are, predominantly, in support roles, with our Southern Region sales team transferring to remote working.”
The statement continues: “We also intend to make a number of changes to our methods of working at our Blaenau manufacturing site in Wales. The seasonality of the market for uPVC windows has proven challenging for our manufacturing processes and we are therefore proposing to change the shift pattern to enable more flexible production capability and greater utilisation of machinery.
On the proposed closure of Amlwch, it says: “Rehau remains committed to manufacturing in the UK. Amlwch is part of a network of facilities serving the European market and production can be transferred to other sites. In contrast, our Blaenau site exclusively manufactures window profile for the UK market.”
