Clearer than glass
28th October 2014

Architectural float glass is a world away from the days of blown or machine drawn plate glass. The float glass process produces a pristine finish which can be slightly reflective in appearance. Guardian Clarity is a magnetron sputtered, anti-reflective glass which helps to remove reflective distractions, producing a barrier which is clearer than glass.

“Glass provides clear protection from the environment outside, however in areas where clarity is paramount, such as shop fronts or restaurants with spectacular views, any distracting reflection impairs glasses potential,” says Luis Homet, Regional Sales Manager for Guardian Western Europe. “Guardian Clarity solves this issue and helps create uninterrupted views in any application”.

Using the most advanced magnetron sputter coating technology, Guardian Clarity offers exceptional performance and durability. The sputter coating technique enables a light transmission of 97% and a reflection of less than 1%, compared to architectural float glass which offers a light transmission of 90% and a reflection of 8%. The carefully tailored anti-reflective coating has been designed so that any reflection caught in that 1% factor appears in a dark blue rather than the pink area of the spectrum, commonly found with other anti-reflective glass.

Being a magnetron sputter coated glass also means that Guardian Clarity is available in the optimum range of sizes, all the way up to Jumbo (3210x6000mm). Guardian Clarity can be supplied double or single sided, in both annealed and laminated forms, produced on Guardian UltraClear - low iron float glass. To aid in the processing of the glass, Guardian Clarity is also supplied with Guardian’s patented TPF (Temporary Protective Film), which protects the coating through processing helping to provide higher yields during fabrication.
