Synseal has unveiled its first solid roof system, Celsius, aimed at both retrofit and new-build conservatories and similar structures and boasting a U-Value of less than 0.2.
Celsius, based on a timber framework with structural insulated panels (SIPs) and lightweight recycled polymer tiles, was created ‘after monitoring the development of competitor products’, according to the company.
The SIPs achieve a pitched roof U-value of 0.18 W/m2K for compliance in England and Wales with a U-value of 0.15 W/m2K for compliance in Scotland by fitting insulated plasterboard to line and finish the solid roof interior.
Use of a timber framework instead of aluminium structures, as with some existing systems, is said to eliminate cold spots. The 100% recycled polypropylene Envirotiles, at 8.4g per sqm are less than a fifth the weight of standard concrete tiles and are said to be quick and easy to handle and cut on site.
The Celsius roof has been developed with Kingspan SIPs, Rapierstar fixings plus Velux for optional roof windows.
Fully approved and registered by the Local Authority Building Control (LABC), the Celsius solid roof is available for existing glazed conservatory roof replacements or new build applications in Lean-To, Georgian, Gable and Victorian building extension styles.
Synseal Roofing Technical Manager Neville Gleed said: “Our aim has been to create the best-looking, most thermally-efficient and easiest-to-fit solid roof on the market today, while at the same time delivering full compliance with Building Regulations for new or retrofit applications. Speed of installation is essential, because on site time = money.”
Product Support Engineer Alan Green added that the aim of Celsius was: “To achieve improved installed thermal performance using proven materials with no inherent design weaknesses to eradicate cold bridging. Our Celsius solid roof is truly warm to provide building extensions that homeowners will be able to use in comfort, 365 days a year.”
